Funny about that, I love Spanish poetry, flaminco guitar, and dance. Also, being in The Prado, standing in awe of El Greco, Goya, Valezqeth et al !! The Alhambra, and Oh, drinking Rose! When of course not working as a Theatre Sister, and writing in American History! I think we might have a lot in common somehow! Angie Raphael xx

Love it Cathy, what an awesome blog! I have always loved reading and this has given me some new things to look up. Love the under the blankets idea, think I may just go do that now.

I was just wondering what had happened to your blog.....when bingo! New reads! Inspiring and varied choices and can just see Stephen Fry sitting at the foot of your sickbed! Tracks is one of my all time favourite Aussie books and I am putting Anna K on my future reading list. Keep on blogging girl!

I had the pleasure of meeting Cathryn on her recent adventures in Tuscany! I loved her positive spirit, her enthusiasm and her zest for life. She always had something interesting to share and I look forward to keeping up with her via this blog. A large glass of white wine awaits you next time you are in the Chianti! Ivanka
p.s. the fur is fake; but I do live in Italy so I have to try to keep up appearances (La Bella Figura) Ciao!

It's been a while since I visited your blog Cath- my travels, your travels- what lucky, lucky people we are!
You have inspired me to read Alice Hoffman and maybe revisit Margaret Atwood- the "Robber Bride" was my favourite. The 2013 Booker Prize winner "The Luminaries" was a good read and a huge HOORAY for Richard Flanigan.

Thankyou for sharing a lovely and very well written piece about both the author and her writing. I find it all very interesting and I really should read more often! Wonderful. Thankyou Cathy; I feel inspiration here. I want to read these novels.

Welcome back Cath! Loved your reflections on the 2013 Ubud Festival and have done a bit of retro reading myself. Inspired by the documentary "Fallout"- about the making of Neville Shute's "On the Beach" I read the novel and saw the original film. Remember Ava Gardner's famous quote about Melbourne being the perfect place to make a movie about the end of the world. Misquoted apparently! Congratulations on 10,000+ followers! Here I am again Cath! I saw Michelle de Kretzer at the Melbourne Writer's Festival, she was a lively and entertaining speaker who questions our ideas of travelling and tourism. I am about to start her book. I also loved the Clive James interview- best TV for ages. I have just finished reading hHhh by Laurent Binet, a very cute French historian who spoke at the festival. I am not a fan of reading about Nazis but his idiosyncratic approach, part novel, part history and definitely putting himself right in there, made it an absorbing read.
Happy reading and blogging.
